In this paper
we study a chemostat model of single-species population for a nutrient with general and monotonically increasing uptake functions. In addition
the removal rate and the dilution rate may also be different. The sufficient conditions and necessary conditions are established for average persistence of the species.These results improve and extend the corresponding results obtained in [1].
