Polybenzidine
poly(o-dianisidine) and poly(o-tolidine) were synthesized directly synthesized by using facial synthesis method.The FTIR spectra
UVvis absorption spectra and X-ray diffraction patterns were used to characterize the molecular structures of these polymers.The morphologies of powders of these polymers were studied by SEM.Voltammetric study was done to investigate the electrochemical behaviors of all these polymers.The relations between ring-substituted groups and the structure

morphology and electrochemical activity of these polymers were discussed by the electronic effects and steric effects of ring-substituted groups and characteristic of facial synthesis.UV-vis absorption spectra showed there is a red shift in the absorption band of poly(odianisidine) comparing with the others.X-ray diffraction patterns showed the most diffraction peaks appeared in poly(o-dianisidine) which meant it was more highly ordered than the other two polymers.SEM studies revealed a variation in the morphological structure of these polymers
polybenzidine particles appears as small chopped or needle shaped fibers in the micrograph.Voltammetric study indicated was better electrochemical activity than the other two polymers.All these results meant that the properties of polybenzidine synthesized by using facial synthesis method was varied by the electronic effects and steric effects of ringsubstituted groups.
