Barchans are not only the most widespread dune type but also the main cause of blown-sand disaster along Tarim Desert Oil-transporting Highway in the southern of Xinjiang

China.We inquiered into the morphological feature

grain-size distribution and moving law of the barchans along the Highway in this paper.The results can be concluded as follows. 1)The dimension of the barchans along the Highway is smaller than that of barchans in other deserts over the world

which has relation to little saturated sand flow

development on short time and narrow moving space existed both sides of most the Highway.We fornd that there are good relations among dune height (H)

leeward slope length (Lb) and windward slope length (Ly).And

these relations are almost no difference during the dune migration. 2)The analysis of trend surface of grain texture parameters on the surface of the dune revealed that values of mean grain-size (Md) is accorded with the model of puadratic trend-surface

and that of standard deviation(δ 1)with that of puartic trend-surface.That is

the sand grain-size on the surface of the dune become finer from windward slope to leeward slope

and sorting degree on the whole surface of the dunes are about the same.In a word

distrebution of grain texture paramters has relation to relative transporting energy of wind on the surface of the dune

and to background of sand source where dunes are located. 3)All the barchans are moving in the same direction as SW

which coincide with the direction of NE compound wind recorded by the weather station nearby the Highway. The mean moving velocity of the barcchans is about 6-8m/year.But

there are some changes in the velocity under the influence of dune height

compound shape as well as ground conditions.
